There’s nothing like the feeling of digging into an indulgent seafood feast. And if your eyes light up at the thought of a finger-licking, lip-smacking dish of crab, you’re in the right place! Known as the ‘creator of the Original and Best Black Pepper Crab in Singapore’, Long Beach has earned a reputation of being a long-standing institution of seafood in the city.
First started in 1946, Long Beach Seafood was one of Singapore’s first restaurants to serve local food. True to its name, Long Beach’s first outlet was located along a long sandy stretch of beach. In the 1980s, Long Beach also became the first restaurant to bring seafood into Singapore. The team at Long Beach Seafood goes all out to source for quality live seafood from all over the world, which are then brought back for their live seafood tanks. As such, their seafood generally comes in limited quantities and vary by season – however, freshness is 100% guaranteed!

The stars of the show are naturally the crabs, where you can choose between Mud Crabs ($115, weighing approximately 900g each) and Dungeness Crabs ($136, approximately 1.2kg each). Choose to have your crab slathered in their famous chilli sauce or coated in white pepper. Their signature ‘Original Best Black Pepper Crab’ comes highly recommended as well!

Add on a live fish (weighing approximately 900g each); choose between the Claypot Live Caught Marble Goby ($113) or Deep-fried Sea Bass in Sintang Style ($53). Complete your seafood extravaganza with some live or deshelled prawns; you won’t go wrong with the Live Drunken Prawn with Herbal Soup ($30) or House Specialty Deshelled Prawns ($26).

Check out the outlet specialities, which include the Live Canadian Geoduck, Golden Stripe Live Lobster, Deep-fried Live Grouper with Mango in Thai Style, Claypot X.O. Yellow Roe Crab with Bee Hoon and many more. Prices for these dishes vary as they depend on season and availability – do enquire with the restaurant for more information. Due to this, these dishes are also not available for takeaway or delivery.
Other usual mainstays of Chinese cuisine are also available, such as Fish Maw Soup with Fresh Crab Meat ($24), Deep-fried Baby Squid ($21), Handmade Tofu with Chef’s Sauce ($16), Dong Po Honey Rib ($22), Blanched Spinach with Trio Egg ($26), Fried Rice with Dried Scallop and Egg White ($26), Kampong Mee Goreng ($24) and more. If you’re feeling particularly indulgent, you can even pamper yourself with a crispy Irish Roast Duck ($46).

Restaurant Experience

The Dempsey branch is one of six outlets in Singapore. The restaurant itself is hard to miss; simply lookout for the giant red and blue ‘LONG BEACH SEAFOOD’ neon sign that adorns its entrance. As with most restaurants in Dempsey, this Long Beach outlet adopts a charming garden theme, where large floor-to-ceiling windows look out into rolling lawns of green. Private rooms are also available upon request.
Choose to dine indoors in air-conditioned comfort, or dine al fresco if you prefer the outdoors. The service staff are friendly and knowledgeable, eagerly offering up recommendations and tidbits of information about the seafood on offer. They’re also attentive and on-the-ball, ensuring that the needs of their customers are all attended to in a timely fashion.
